Our classes are led by qualified, caring teachers who obtain at least an additional 24 hours of training each year. All staff are trained in CPR and First Aid.
|Terri Sloan, Preschool Director
I started my career with children as a young babysitter extraordinaire. I took my love for play to The University and obtained my master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education. After teaching in the public schools, I became a stay-at-home mom of two boys and discovered the ministry of church preschools. I have been directing preschools now for over 25 years, and my resume includes being a master registered trainer for early childhood educators, a validator for the National Association for Education of Young Children, a children’s choir director, and a Christian clown! My favorite hat says “I’m never growing up!” I love being silly with children, reading and being a grandmother!
|Ms. Suzy, Twos’ Teacher, Guppies class
I joined the CUMP family in 2008 as both a parent and a teacher. I’ve known since childhood that I wanted to work with children and teach. I have a degree in education from UT and all of my work experience has been with children. I love teaching at the preschool level because they are so curious and there is so much opportunity to learn through play. I’m a mother of three and, in my spare time, love to play games and read.
|Mr. Jeff, Threes’ Teacher, Turtles Class
I have been working with children since 1984 and have been a teacher at CUMP since August, 2001. I graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation/Recreation Administration. I have worked at various agencies in Austin including Austin Parks and Recreation, Travis State School, and two private psychiatric hospitals. I believe children learn best while doing, and I incorporate many hands-on experiences to facilitate my philosophies in the classroom. I am married and have two boys who were in the first and third graduation classes at CUMP.
|Ms. Andrea, Fours Teacher, Sunflowers Class
I came to CUMP in January, 2011 and took over the Sunflowers class. I have a teaching certificate in Elementary Education and I taught a PPCD class (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) in AISD for 5 years before I had my son and daughter. My nephew attended CUMP for 2 years, and I was fortunate to be hired to teach the 4 and 5 year olds. It’s such an exciting age – full of new independence and discovery. I encourage self-expression through different art mediums during the year and, throughout the year, we learn about topics that are meaningful to the children.
Ms. April, Toddlers’ Teacher
I joined the CUMP family as a parent in the Fall of 2015 and became a teacher in the Summer of 2016. My bachelor’s degree is in Family & Human Services. My first job working with children was working as a camp counselor at a summer camp in Oklahoma. Looking back, I have always gravitated toward working with children in a variety of settings throughout my youth and adulthood. Children amaze me in so many ways and I love to interact with them and watch them learn new things through both teaching and self-discovery. I am married and have two beautiful children.
